Dual Credit Importance of Capstone Courses

Presented by Marc Duske, Staff & Special Projects Manager, NMPED College & Career Readiness Bureau and Adam Sanchez, CTE Coach, NMPED College & Career Readiness Bureau

This dual credit presentation will discuss strategies that increase student college and career readiness. The presentation will highlight the advantages of NM Dual Credit coursework as one strategy and will provide guidance on which strategy may work best for your students. Learn how dual credit coursework:

  • Builds college and career ready skills
  • Enhances economic opportunities for graduates
  • Keeps students ‘hooked’ on school

Updated information will also be provided on how NM Dual Credit (DC) coursework enhances CTE programs of study.

 

Building an Equitable K-12 Computer Science Program

Future-Focused Education

For the past two years, teachers and school and district leaders in New Mexico have been engaged in creating new learning and assessment opportunities for students through the Graduation Equity Initiative. Participants will learn more about this initiative and how it has expanded to include work based learning strategies to reengage young people in school, as they take ownership over their learning. The presentation will include examples of capstones and work based learning from across New Mexico and will offer innovative ways of thinking about student learning and assessment.

Adobe Certified Professional

Presented by Janette Sayer, Certiport

In this session you will learn about the Adobe Certified Professional certification program. Adobe Certified Professional is the industry-recognized certification that demonstrates mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud software and must-have knowledge for digital media careers. Each exam is integrated with an Adobe application and designed by experts, allowing for an authentic assessment of job-ready skills. The NMPED purchased Adobe Creative Cloud licenses for every student and staff for the 2022-23 school year.

CCRB Updates/Graduation Requirements

Presented by Elaine Perea, PhD, Director, NMPED-CCRB

The 2022-23 school year is underway and CTE funds are the highest in years. Come to this session to learn about all the great programs that CCRB is administering. The PED’s agency budget planning is underway and CTE funding could be a big deal for the upcoming legislative session. Another potential topic for the upcoming legislative session is graduation requirements. Hear about PED’s proposals to the LESC for changes to graduation requirements and learn about the upcoming legislative process.

Beyond the Books - Implementing Co-Curricular Classrooms

Presented by Donna Corder, DC Leadership

Employers seek out people that have more than just knowledge and book smarts. They desire people with communication skills, ambition, cooperation, flexibility, responsibility, accountability, individual initiative; skills that can not be taught through books. Go beyond the books and learn how to create a co-curricular, project based classroom by implementing Career and Technical Student Organizations into the curriculum. Provide your students with the final touches they need for their career success.

College & Career Counseling/Advising

Presented by Angelica Delgadillo, School Counselor Liaison, NMPED-CCRB

Attendees will be introduced to the new School Counselor Liaison. Goals of the new role will be shared and attendees will collaborate and share what resources they need to ensure our NM students are college and career ready.
